AQUIFER is comprised of 25 laser-lit tubes with automated dowels and 1 interactive screen. The laser-lit tubes represent various groundwater abstraction points in sub-districts around Jakarta.
Utilizing data sets from Wahyudi and Moersidik’s 2015 analysis of groundwater availability in Jakarta, the dowels within the tubes are automated to show current and projected groundwater table levels within that sub-district’s area.
The screen shows data on water demand and supply ratios. Using data from BPS-Statistic of DKI Jakarta Province (2017 to 2021), we divided the total volume of sold piped water by the total number of PAM customers. Taking this average, we then multiplied it by the total population to give an estimate of the total raw water demand.
Of this total demand, we mark how much of it was supplied by PAM, and assume the remainder was fulfilled by means of groundwater abstraction.
All tubes and the screen cycle through the years concurrently, showing data from each relative sub-district. The selector dial on the screen allows users to cycle through the sub-districts, within the cycle of one particular year.
- Resin dowel, automated per sub-district reading
- Laser diode and stepper motor per tube
- Year / district / demand (m³) selector dial
- Controller cycling Ground Water vs. Piped Water totals
