Robot Barista

Designed with a theatrical atmosphere in mind, the software we created complements the robot barista to keep the focus on the product and its process. Synchronized to the robot’s voiceover and movements, the system projects graphics onto the display area while dynamically masking out the arms of the robot when in motion.

The journey starts as you enter through the glass door, which closes behind you automatically. Once inside, you initiate the show by placing your hand on a button that's projected onto the table's surface. As the show commences, the lighting softens and blinds gently lower. Meanwhile, the robot stirs into motion, and a voice-over starts to recount the unfolding story.

Command

A custom control module to run the show is integrated into the space, it manages the automatic doors, motorized blinds, and interior lighting.

Table projection area

To create a connection between the robot and the space, a kinetic grid is projected onto the table surface and responds to the positions of physical objects on and above the surface.

Chest projection area

The overhead projector displays graphics on the robot’s chest, providing contextual information about the current step in the brewing process.
